Multi-platinum singer, songwriter, and record producer Andy Grammer wasn’t looking to discover the next future pop star when he took a tour through Children’s Health in Dallas, Texas, yet he may have done just that.
Andy is the voice behind huge pop hits on the radio like “Fine By Me” and “Keep Your Head Up.” He’s known for spreading positivity and good humor with his upbeat music, so as he walked through the halls of Children’s Health he was hoping to cheer up some sick kids. Instead, he found himself getting serenaded by a truly talented little girl.

Andy had been popping into kids’ rooms and offering to sing them a song, and most kids had jumped at the chance to hear the pop singer in action. But when Andy knocked on Kylah’s door, the child instead turned the question back to him and asked if she could sing to him instead.
“She then proceed[s] to touch my soul with her voice,” Andy wrote on his social media pages. “She pulled out her iPad and sang her guts out to a song called ‘I Believe’ by Demi Lovato and DJ Khaled.”

As soon as Kylah starts to sing Andy’s face lights up with the recognition of her raw talent. He seems genuinely impressed, and rightly so. Kylah’s voice has a certain timbre to it that reminds us of a young Aretha Franklin! With some training, there’s no telling what she could do.
And when she hits that high note… wow!

Not only was Andy taken by Kylah’s talents, but he was also inspired by how positive and hopeful the young girl remains. Even though she’s stuck in the hospital fighting for her life, she finds strength in music, just like Andy does.
“This little girl has been in a hospital for 6 months and she has hope,” Andy wrote. “She told me when she gets sad she puts this on and sings and it reminds her to be brave. Kylah is an incredible reminder that in any situation, no matter how dire hope can be found.”

Andy ends the visit with some words of encouragement, telling Kylah that he believes she’s got the natural talent necessary to be a singer someday herself. “Her voice and spirit have stayed with me this week. I am [in] love. When I come back to Dallas I want her to come sing on stage with me. I hope this makes your week like it made mine,” Andy wrote.
Kylah is the perfect example of someone who refuses to let her current situation keep her mired in doubt and worry. She may be sick, but she’s got the kind of survivor’s attitude that makes us certain she’ll beat whatever she’s fighting and go on to do great things!
