French Onion Soup Casserole Is Even Easier To Make Than The Soup Itself

French onion soup is one of my favorite dishes in the world. Yet, I only eat it when I go out to a nice restaurant because making it at home is a chore. Some of the classic recipes I’ve found take can require hours of work and simmer time on the stove, along with oven broiling. I’m just not that patient when it comes to cooking.

But The Seasoned Mom website has a recipe called Incredibly Easy French Onion Soup Casserole and it sounds like the perfect way to give me a taste of one of my favorite dishes — without quite so much effort.

The Seasoned Mom

The recipe claims there is only about 10 minutes of “hands-on prep time” and I love the sound of that. The longest step is cooking the onions on the stovetop for 30 minutes. But you only need to stir them a few times, so you’re not working that entire half-hour.

The extended cooking time for the onions is necessary for “the beautifully rich, French onion soup flavor,” says blogger Blair from the site. So, don’t skimp on those valuable cooking minutes!

This French Onion Soup Casserole can also be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to two days until you’re ready to serve it with your meal — or maybe as your meal!

You’ll want to consult the recipe for the full list and quantities of ingredients needed to make the casserole. But, in general, you’ll need sweet onions, butter, beef broth (which the author recommends for that ideal taste), Worcestershire sauce, French baguette bread, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan cheese.

After the onions are fully cooked for 30 minutes and then allowed to simmer with the broth and Worcestershire sauce, it all goes into the casserole dish with the toasted bread and cheese. Then, the magic happens inside the oven.

The recipe also gives tips on how to prepare parts of the dish ahead of time to keep the best flavor and make re-heating a cinch when you want a quick meal to serve the family. I can’t wait to try it myself for dinner!
