Everyone knows all good things must come to an end, and that includes our favorite TV shows. Nowadays, however, reboots are popular. From “Will & Grace” to “Murphy Brown” and other shows, it seems we just can’t let go of some of our favorite characters. But while some stars, such as Amy Poehler from “Parks and Recreation,” say they’d love a reboot of their most popular show, others would prefer to leave the final episode as, well, the finale.
Now, Steve Carell has confirmed he is not up for rebooting “The Office,” the wildly popular show in which he played Michael Scott, the manager of Pennsylvania paper company Dunder Mifflin.
During his opening monologue as the guest host on “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend, Carell was asked by one of “SNL”‘s fake audience members if he was interested in a reboot. “Actually, I don’t think so. It was a great experience and I love all these people but I just don’t think it’s the best idea,” he said. “I think maybe we should just leave it alone.”
Three of Carell’s former co-stars — Jenna Fischer, Ed Helms and Ellie Kemper — then appeared in the audience to chime in on the bit, and let’s just say they were definitely not on the same page.
“People would really love to see an ‘Office‘ reboot,” said Kemper, who played secretary Erin Hannon. “I mean especially me, ’cause I need that money. Let’s get that money, Steve.” Still not able to convince Carell, Helms, who played salesman and then manager Andy Benard, then joined in, saying, “I don’t think you understand how much money we’re talking about.”
Fischer then asked Carell if he remembered the last words her character Pam whispered to Michael as he left for Denver, reminding him, jokingly, that it was about how he needs to do the reboot. Fischer also pretended to forget the name of Pam’s love interest, Jim.
His real-life wife, who also had a guest role on “The Office,” and his children then spoke up to say they also support him doing the reboot, and that they wouldn’t miss him if he was gone shooting it. Too funny!

After asking the audience if they’re up for a reboot, Carell then brought his co-stars on stage to say he was “proud to announce officially that … we have a great show tonight,” which is what all “SNL” guest hosts say at the end of their monologue.

While there is a rumor that the show will indeed be rebooted by NBC, there is no guarantee that it will ever happen, nor is there any word on whether any original cast members would be returning. But based on his “SNL” appearance, it seems like Carell is out.
However, Jim Krasinski, who played the loveable Jim Halpert, said earlier this year that he’d like to know what Jim is up to now. “He had a whole lot of hopes and dreams, he had a lot of zany ideas, and then he went to Austin to live his life and I feel like the dreams are still in his head, so let’s see what he’s doing now,” he told Variety.
