Stacey Abrams refuses to concede Georgia governor’s race, hoping for runoff

Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams is not conceding the Georgia governor's race to Republican candidate Brian Kemp, arguing that the high stakes contest is too close to call with the possibility of a runoff next month. Kemp is currently ahead of Abrams by nearly 68,000 votes with 99% of precincts reporting, according to CNN election results. But he only has 50.4% of the vote. If neither candidate receives 50%, there will be a runoff in early December. "I'm here tonight to tell you votes remain to be counted. There's voices that are waiting to be heard," Abrams, who would be the nation's first black female governor, told supporters early Wednesday morning gathered in Atlanta. Kemp told supporters he is confident of his victory. "There are votes left to count. But we have a very ...

Democrats Regain Control Of The House With Wave Of Women Candidates

Democrats have taken control of the House of Representatives for the first time since the 2010 elections. Democratic candidates flipped seats in Virginia, Florida, Kansas and Colorado, among other states, winning a solid majority in the chamber. More than a dozen of the winning candidates were women, including the first two Native American women ever elected to Congress. Several of the Democratic pickups also came in states that went for President Donald Trump in the 2016 election, including races in Texas, Iowa and Oklahoma. The White House touted Republicans' wins in the Senate as an overall victory, but the new Democratic majority in the House could represent a major obstacle for the GOP's legislative agenda.

Voters clearly stood up to incivility and cynicism. Not in Florida.

So, this was enlightening. Not just the results, but the implications. Basically, this election says that Florida is a purple state in theory only. The truth is you live in a Republican stronghold, and it is folly to argue otherwise. That goes for the state Legislature, the congressional delegation and the Governor’s Mansion, too. Florida Democrats have a sizable lead in registered voters, and a fatal deficit in enthusiasm. Or brains. Or money. Or all three. Elsewhere, voters clearly stood up to incivility and cynicism on Tuesday. Not in Florida. President Donald Trump called Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum a "stone-cold thief’’ and voters did not blink. He made immigration sound like a zombie apocalypse and the crowds cheered. He told Republicans to show up...

Long delays and broken machines plague voters in Georgia

Voters in Georgia faced malfunctioning voting machines plagued with technical issues and long delays as they headed to the polls on Tuesday. In the state where the Republican gubernatorial hopeful Brian Kemp is being sued for using his position as secretary of state to suppress minority voter registrations, reports have been emerging of technical problems and limited numbers of voting machines available in areas with high minority populations. Throughout the morning, machines at four locations across Gwinnett County, northeast of Atlanta, temporarily stopped working, forcing the use of paper ballots and creating four-hour delays. A voter sent me this video from inside the Annistown Elementary polling location in Gwinnett County. Poll workers are telling voters that the voting machin...
