Democratic candidates flipped seats in Virginia, Florida, Kansas and Colorado, among other states, winning a solid majority in the chamber. More than a dozen of the winning candidates were women, including the first two Native American women ever elected to Congress. Several of the Democratic pickups also came in states that went for President Donald Trump in the 2016 election, including races in Texas, Iowa and Oklahoma. The White House touted Republicans' wins in the Senate as an overall victory, but the new Democratic majority in the House could represent a major obstacle for the GOP's legislative agenda.

The New York Times obtained the audio from a one-minute robocall placed last week.
