Stephenie Meyer, author of the blockbuster “Twilight” and the ensuing book series, just announced a new addition to the vampire universe that fans have been eagerly waiting for over the past few years.
The newest book is called “Midnight Sun,” and it’s scheduled for release on Aug. 4. This story will bring readers back to where the “Twilight” series started: Forks, Washington. Fans will now have the chance to revisit the story of the brooding vampire Edward and his mortal classmate-turned-girlfriend and eventual wife, Bella Swan, who was the narrator of the original series. This time, though, the story will be told from Edward’s perspective.
Meyer shared the official announcement through a number of media outlets, including through a video message on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Twitter account. She talked about the unusual timing of the book’s upcoming release during the coronavirus pandemic but hoped the new read would help be a distraction during difficult times.
“I am very excited to finally, finally announce the release of ‘Midnight Sun’ on Aug. 4,” Meyer said. “It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure if this was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long. It didn’t seem fair to make you wait anymore. Sorry about the bad timing. Hopefully, this book can be a distraction from the real world. I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with you.”

Fans started to suspect something might be happening in the Twilight universe on April 29, when Meyer’s official website posted a mysterious countdown scheduled to end at 8:30 a.m on May 4. Fickle Fish Films, a company co-founded by Meyer, posted a cryptic message to social media and it got fans buzzing.

What can fans expect from “Midnight Sun?” The book’s publisher gave readers a tease of some of the new twists to this previously-told story.
“This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist,” according to the official book release statement. “Meeting beautiful, mysterious Bella is both the most intriguing and unnerving event he has experienced in his long life as a vampire.
