Enjoy Craft Beer While Riding Through The Rocky Mountains On This Brew Train

There’s nothing quite like seeing summer fade into fall. Especially in the mountains. And thanks to one Colorado train ride experience, you can take in views of the vibrantly-colored trees speckled along the mountainsides all while enjoying some craft beer. If this sounds like an experience you’d like to have — you’ll have to book a ticket sooner rather than later!

This year, the train’s only rolling out of the station once, on Sept. 29. The Durango Brew Train typically takes two rides a year, according to Food & Wine, but due to mudslides, it’ll only be taking one trip into the mountains in 2018.

And you won’t want to miss it. Thanks to the beauty that is fall in Colorado, your train ride could look a little something like this:

If you’re lucky enough to board the Brew Train, you’ll be taken on a four-hour round-trip journey from the Durango Depot to Cascade Canyon.

The ride will take place on a 1920s steam locomotive. And — if that wasn’t cool enough — you’ll also be offered craft beers from local breweries and served Bavarian-style food offerings such as pretzels and more while taking in the scenic views.

You can get a sense of what the ride is like through this video from the train’s YouTube channel:

The Reviews

The train ride has received thousands of five-star reviews on TripAdvisor, and the main takeaway from any “average” reviews note that this is maybe not so great for people who suffer from motion sickness.

“Train was nice, but for people who get motion sickness, sometimes not so good,” one TripAdvisor review read.

But others called the ride a “bucket list item” and noted that, overall, the experience was great and the scenery was beautiful.

“This was such a great experience! Not only was the scenery beautiful, as one would expect in Colorado, but the beer was great too,” one reviewer wrote. “Would highly recommend this to anyone, but especially a beer lover. And I would love to go again in the fall once the leaves start changing!”

Book A Trip

If you’re interested in trying out the experience for yourself, you can do so at the Durango Train website. Ticket prices range from $109-$169.

Don’t worry if you’re not able to make it to Colorado for the Brew Train experience. The Durango train company also offers a Wine & Rails ride, as well as a Polar Express Train Ride that showcases the magic of Christmas during the holiday season.

So whether you’re traveling solo, with friends or with the whole family, there’s a Colorado adventure waiting for you!

Amtrak also offers fall foliage views in a train ride that travels from Albany, New York, across the Canadian border to Montreal, if you happen to live in the northeast area, instead.
