Good Morning America: ‘Halloween’ ‘Today’ ‘GMA,’ Kelly and Ryan’ hosts dress up as ’80s characters

Morning and daytime talk shows treated viewers to plenty of tricks and treats during their Halloween spooktaculars Wednesday — many of which were ’80s-themed.

“Today”

Halloween was already a sensitive topic for the morning program, even before Oct. 31. Megyn Kelly, the former host of the third hour of “Today,” created quite the uproar when she defended blackface on the October holiday on her now-canceled program. Not surprisingly, Kelly was missing from this year’s festivities.

Controversy aside, the hosts of the morning program, considering their history of going all-out for Halloween, topped themselves with this year’s ’80s theme, reenacting the decade’s most iconic movie scenes and paying homage to its musical icons.

Hoda Kotb tickled the keys as Elton John, Carson Daly entered on a motorcycle as Bruce Springsteen and Al Roker went “Back to the Future” as the Doc Brown to Dylan Dreyer’s Marty McFly.

Other highlights included Savannah Guthrie as Cyndi Lauper, Kathie Lee Gifford as Madonna, Craig Melvin as Prince Akeem from “Coming to America,” Willie Geist as Ferris Bueller and Peter Alexander and Jenna Bush Hager as Maverick and Goose from “Top Gun.”

“Good Morning America”

In a strange coincidence, the “Today” show’s top competitor “Good Morning America” also went on a nostalgic tour of the ’80s, with the entire team dressing up as beloved characters from the era’s favorite television shows.

Their costumes included Robin Roberts’ fabulous Dominique Deveraux from “Dynasty,” George Stephanopolis as a briefcase-toting Alex P. Keaton from “Family Ties,” Amy Robach as Peggy Bundy from “Married…With Children,” Lara Spencer as Captain Stubing from “The Love Boat,” Ginger Zee as Michelangelo from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Rob Marciano’s Zack Morris from “Saved by the Bell” – and best of all, Michael Strahan as Mr. T from “The A-Team.”

“Live with Kelly and Ryan”

As part of “Live’s Best Halloween Show Ever: The Reboooot,” hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest threw it back by reprising characters from their favorite TV shows, parodying small-screen favorites like “Friends,” “Saved by the Bell” and “I Love Lucy” (for which her IRL hubby Mark Consuelos played the part of bongo-beating Ricky.)

In the “Live” world, “Dawson’s Creek” is also up for a reboot, for which Ripa and Seacrest auditioned, with the help of former “Creek” star Busy Philipps.
