Every Nicole at the University Of Calgary was united last week when a guy decided to email every student with the same name in an attempt to find a woman he met at a bar.
Carols Zenita said that he and the mystery Nicole seemed to hit it off at the bar, and at the end of the night, he drove her and a friend home and got her number. But when he went to text her, it wasn’t the right number.
Most people would stop there, and file it away as a memory of what could have been. But Zenita was determined, and he had a strategy. He knew the Nicole he met also went to the University of Calgary, so he painstakingly went through the school email directory to find every single Nicole, and he emailed them all. Just to be safe, he also included Nickies, Nicolettes, and other variations on Nicole.
The subject line for the email was “Met you last night and you gave me the wrong number.” In the email, Zenita wrote, “if you don’t fit this description then ignore…If you [sic] name is Nicole and you’re from Holland and you [sic] the Nietzsche is depressing text me.” Then, with extreme trust, he sent his phone number to over 200 people he did not know.
“Pretty soon after that, some Nicoles started replying to each other,” Nicole Maseja, an employee at the University of Calgary, told BuzzFeed News. Emails flew back and forth, and a bunch of the Nicoles had quickly planned a get-together at a bar that night. They became fast friends, and are now a part of a Facebook group, Nicole From Last Night.

The original Nicole sadly didn’t get the email. However, she reached out to the Nicole From Last Night group. Turns out, she hadn’t memorized her Canadian number properly and didn’t have a school email yet. “But the powerful network of Nicoles helped me get in touch,” she wrote to the group. The Nicoles are going to continue meeting up in the future, and Nicole from Holland hopes to join them. No word if she plans to reach out to Zenita.
