Heathrow Airport Staff Tribute To Freddie Mercury On His 72nd Birthday Is Freakin’ Awesome

When we talk about rock stars, one thing is certain: the shiniest one out there is Freddie Mercury. The Queen frontman had it all: the charisma, the style, the energy, and most importantly, one of the best voices of all times. Period.

Today would have been Freddie Mercury’s 72nd birthday, but unfortunately for everyone, he left us too soon in 1991. However, his legacy is eternal. There’s a movie about his life that is coming out later this year called ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, and we truly can’t wait for it to come out. However, a tribute to this great showman came in today from a pretty unlikely source.

Freddie – born Farrokh Bulsara, used to work as a baggage handler at Heathrow Airport in London while he was a young man living in Feltham, England. As we all know, he went on to become one of the biggest musical stars that ever existed, but the people of British Airways have not forgotten about his contributions to their company all those years ago.
In partnership with the upcoming movie, and to coincide with Freddie’s birthday, they used the help of several of their Heathrow baggage handling team and they re-performed some of the classic Mercury moves to the Queen’s song ‘I Want To Break Free’.

They weren’t dressed as women pushing vacuum cleaners around one of Heathrow’s terminals, but they did have fake mustaches and wheely suitcases, and that alone was a pretty impressive sight. They pulled off the dance moves they have been training for in front of the terminal that was full of surprised and amused travelers, and as it looks like, they had a lot of fun doing it.

Baggage Manager Adam Dewey, one of the stars of the tribute video says:

“Freddie Mercury is an undisputed rock legend and it has been an absolute blast planning his birthday celebrations at Heathrow Airport, where he once worked.
Myself and the other baggage handlers taking part have put everything into these dance routines and we can’t wait to see the faces on holidaymakers when they strut their stuff in the arrivals hall.
The new film Bohemian Rhapsody has proved a great inspiration for all of us and we can’t wait to be hot-stepping our way to the premiere next month.”

To add to that, Heathrow Terminal 5 will celebrate ‘Freddie Mercury Day’ in a very unusual matter: if you happen to be called Freddie, Fred, Frederick, or Farrokh, you get free access to one of British Airways’ posh lounges for the day, along with your traveling companions.

The movie ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is set to air on October 24 in the U.K., and November 2 in the U.S.
