Netflix’s groundbreaking drama Orange Is the New Black is ending after its seventh season debuts in 2019, the show’s cast revealed on social media Wednesday.
The announcement arrived courtesy of a short video posted to Orange Is the New Black’s social media channels, with different parts split among the cast. They shared the sentiment that while they’ll thankful for what the show has given them over the past several years, they’ll always be grateful for the fans who’ve supported them all along the way.

“Season 7, you will not be disappointed,” Uzo Aduba added. “It is a season you will not forget. And we’re going to give you everything and more that you could have ever wanted.”
Orange Is the New Black debuted on Netflix in 2013, and along with House of Cards (which is ending later this year), it helped put Netflix on the map both as a network for prestige television and a serious award show contender, which included four Emmys (including two acting wins for Aduba) and a Peabody. The show had previously been renewed for three seasons by Netflix in 2016, and this upcoming season will complete Netflix’s renewal order.
“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison,” creator Jenji Kohan said in a statement. “I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black.”
