Vans Launches A 90th Anniversary Mickey Mouse Collection
BRB, buying one of everything!
You may have heard that this year is Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday — and he’s looking pretty good, right? To commemorate 90 years of Disney’s most iconic character, Vans and Disney collaborated on a Mickey and Minnie Mouse-inspired collection of footwear, apparel and accessories. Be prepared to buy one of everything!
Launching Oct. 5, the collection features 11 designs inspired by Disney films old and new. For instance, there’s a nod to one of Mickey Mouse’s first films, “Plane Crazy,” which came out in 1928.
Vans’ Sk8-Hi shoe has been reimagined to capture the essence of “Plane Crazy,” featuring a different scene from the black-and-white movie on each quarter panel. There’s even a 3D emblem on the heel!
Moving forward in time, there’s a 1980s punk-inspired shoe featuring Mickey and Minnie wearing leather jackets, a checkerboard pattern and flames on the sides:
It’s crazy to think that Mickey Mouse has been around for nine decades! Walt Disney Studios was founded in 1923, and five years later, the character we all know and love, Mickey Mouse, came along.
“Steamboat Willie” was the first Mickey Mouse animation to feature synchronized music and sound effects — and children loved it. The film premiered in New York on Nov. 18, 1928, “Plane Crazy” came out shortly after, and the rest is history.
Mickey Mouse went on to become one of the most beloved characters of all time, and there’s something special about the way this Vans collection honors Disney’s past, present and future. Get a peek at what this collection has to offer:
1. Velvet Accents
Who doesn’t love watching Mickey accidentally cause havoc as a bumbling magician in the 1940 “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” cartoon? These navy blue “Fantasia”-inspired shoes with yellow stars are a nod to the young sorcerer and they are just the right mix of luxury and everyday. You can’t beat sneakers with velvet accents!
