Famous People Who’ve Never Gotten Married

Do you recognize some of Hollywood’s most famous bachelors and bachelorettes?

While some celebrities have been known to marry, divorce and remarry multiple times over the course of their lives, others have never married at all. Not even once.

Some avoid that walk down the aisle by choice while others simply have yet to find Mr. or Mrs. Right. Check out this list of celebrities who’ve never once said “I do.”

Matthew Perry

“Friends” actor Matthew Perry has romanced actresses like Heather Graham, Julia Roberts and Lauren Graham but has never tied the knot.

In 2009, Perry told the UK’s Daily Mail, “Life has changed so much over the last few decades. There used to be a feeling that once you were 30, you had to be married with children and a house… and here I am, nearly 40, with none of that. But I’m hoping that will change. I’m a pretty happy guy, who is looking for someone who enjoys having a good time. I’m hoping it will all work out for me in the end.”

Kourtney Kardashian

Unlike her sisters Kim and Khloe, reality star Kourtney Kardashian has never gotten married. Instead, she has three kids and an on-again/off-again relationship with partner Scott Disick since 2006. (They are currently “off.”) “I can’t commit to anything… but I love Scott, and he is my partner,” she told Jimmy Kimmel in 2012.

Shakira

Latina pop singer Shakira and Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué have eight years under their belts, but are in no rush to get married. While she hasn’t completely ruled out marriage in the future, she stated in an interview in 2014 that they don’t feel a need to get hitched.

“We already have what’s essential, you know?” The pop star said. “We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby. I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them. But if I’m ever going to get married, he’s the one.”

The couple now have two children together: Milan, 5, and Sasha, 3.

Jon Hamm

“Mad Men” star Jon Hamm doesn’t believe he’s cut out for married life.

“I don’t have the marriage chip,” he said in a 2010 interview, noting that his parents’ marriage didn’t last and that had an impact on him. The actor split from director and writer Jennifer Westfeldt, with whom he had an 18-year relationship, in 2015.

Owen Wilson

Although Owen Wilson has kept his lips zipped on his private life, some have described the “Wedding Crashers” star as an “eternal bachelor.” He has two children with different mothers but has never gotten married. He has also been in relationships with Kate Hudson and Sheryl Crow.

Leonardo DiCaprio

When it comes to marriage, Leonardo DiCaprio takes a laissez-faire approach. The actor, who has dated quite a few well-known models including Gisele Bündchen and Bar Refaeli, told Parade: “That time will come when that time comes. The truth is, you can’t predict marriage. You can’t plan it. It’s just going to happen when it happens.”

Wise words, Leo.

Oprah Winfrey

According to media mogul Oprah Winfrey, the reason her 30-plus year-long relationship with partner Stedman Graham has been so successful is because the two never married.

“His interpretation of what it means to be a husband and what it would mean for me to be a wife would have been pretty traditional, and I would not have been able to fit into that,” she explained to Vogue in 2017.

Charlize Theron

“Marriage to me is not that important,” Charlize Theron told Howard Stern in 2017. “I want to have a partner and have a monogamous long-term relationship, I really do. But I don’t need to have a wedding. My heart and my life and how I am with that guy is going to be exactly the same. I don’t need the party. I don’t need the white dress.”

The actress was in a 9-year relationship with actor Stuart Townsend before splitting up in 2010. Since then, she has adopted two children on her own: Jackson, 6, and August, 2.

Matt Dillon

Although he’s never married, Matt Dillon’s ideas on marriage seem to have evolved as he’s gotten older. Notably, he told Parade in 2006 that “I’m open to life now, even to marriage.”

He’s reportedly been in a long-term relationship with Italian choreographer Roberta Mastromichele and famously dated his “There’s Something About Mary” co-star Cameron Diaz in the ’90s.

Winona Ryder

“I’d rather never have been married than been divorced a few times,” Winona Ryder told The Edit in 2016. “Not that there’s anything wrong with divorce, but I don’t think I could do it if that was a possibility. When your parents are madly in love for 45 years, your standards are really high. But I’ve been happily with someone for quite a while now.”

The “Stranger Things” actress has reportedly been in a relationship with eco-conscious fashion designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn since 2011, and she was engaged to Johnny Depp in the early ’90s.

Ricky Gervais

Although Ricky Gervais has been with his partner — college sweetheart and author Jane Fallon — for over 35 years, don’t expect to ever see wedding photos of him online. That’s because he has said that he doesn’t see “any point” in getting married.

“We don’t want any more toasters,” he joked. Fallon has also said that marriage is not something either of them has ever needed.

Lauren Graham

If it’s not broken, why fix it? That seems to be the Lauren Graham’s attitude with regard to her relationship with former “Parenthood” co-star Peter Krause. When asked in 2014 if marriage is in the couple’s future, she replied: “I don’t know! We are really happy. I feel like close to five years in Hollywood, it’s, like, aren’t we married already really? It’s good the way it is.”

Al Pacino

Although “The Godfather” star Al Pacino has never been married, he won’t rule out the possibility, even though he is nearly 80 years old and has fathered three children. When asked in 2017 if he’d marry his longtime girlfriend Lucila Sol, Pacino replied, “I never say never. It’s possible.”

Marisa Tomei

When it comes to her thoughts on marriage, Academy Award-winning actor Marisa Tomei doesn’t mince words. “I’m not that big a fan of marriage as an institution and I don’t know why women need to have children to be seen as complete human being,” she once stated. The star has been linked to actors like Robert Downey, Jr. and Josh Radnor in the past.

Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow isn’t jaded about love or relationships that didn’t work out, and she has been linked in the past to musician Eric Clapton, cyclist Lance Armstrong and actor Owen Wilson.

“Hey, I would love to get married — I’m still old-fashioned,” she told Good Housekeeping in 2014. “But I don’t think marriage is the be-all and end-all. It’s better to have three broken engagements than three divorces.”

Seth MacFarlane

Although he dated “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke in the past, Seth MacFarlane, the star and creator of “Family Guy” remains single.

“I’m wide open to getting married, but actors are not easy people to date,” he told Parade. “You end up sharing that person with this other mistress that is their career. I very much like the traditional courtship method of making a date. That’s what they do in normal places, but Hollywood’s not normal.”

Allison Janney

She doesn’t believe in the institution of marriage, and Academy Award-winner Allison Janney is enjoying her life as a single lady.

“I want to be a player!” she told Elle magazine in 2014. “I’m still single! I want to feel sexy and pretty and young as long as I can.”

Mindy Kaling

“When I was younger, I wanted so badly to be married and have kids in a rush,” said “The Mindy Project” star Mindy Kaling in 2015. “I loved my parents’ relationship.” However, the actress added that she doesn’t need to be married.

“I don’t need anyone to take care of all my needs and desires,” she told Good Housekeeping. “I can take care of them myself now.” The actress gave birth to her first child as a single mom in 2017.

Kristin Davis

Although Charlotte York on “Sex and the City” was determined to have the perfect marriage, in real life, actress Kristin Davis couldn’t be farther from the character she played. She has said that she was too busy in her twenties and thirties working as an actress to focus on getting married. Nowadays, Davis is busy being a mom and has two adopted children.

Diane Keaton

Despite many high-profile romances with stars like Warren Beatty, marriage was never in the cards for Diane Keaton. The actress had wanted to get married to “Godfather co-star and one-time boyfriend Al Pacino, but it didn’t work out. Years later, she revealed: “He was even less inclined to be realistic than me. … And I was on the cusp of being very old. So that poor guy. I don’t think he was really that interested. And I don’t think a long-term happy marriage would be easy for him.”

The Academy Award-winning star has raised two children on her own.

Edie Falco

Having divorced parents may have influenced “Nurse Jackie” and “The Sopranos” actress Edie Falco never to marry. She says that her kids — whom she adopted as a single mom — are better off for it. “My kids have never seen me scream at anybody,” she told The Daily Beast in a 2010 interview. “They’ve never seen an argument. There’s never been even a cold silence. And those are things that I grew up with because my parents did end up divorcing.”
