Justin Theroux speaks out about his split from Jennifer Aniston for the first time
This is the first time Justin has spoken out since the divorce last year
Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston broke up last year after two years of marriage. Theroux spoke out about the break up for the first time yesterday.

The 47 year old announced his split from Aniston on February 15, saying “This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
The couple met in 2007 on the set of Tropic Thunder, which Theroux co-wrote. They met again in 2010 on the set of Wanderlust. Shortly after, Theroux broke up with his girlfriend of 14 years, Heidi Bivens. The couple were seen holding hands while at dinner for the first time in May 2011, and at the end of the year were rumored to have moved in together.

While speaking to The New York Times on Saturday, Theroux said, “The good news is that was probably the most—I’m choosing my words really carefully—it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity. Again, neither one of us is dead, neither one of us is looking to throw hatchets at each other. It’s more like, it’s amicable. It’s boring, but, you know, we respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be.”

Theroux added that the split was obviously “heartbreaking” but “only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day.” He added, “But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we’re both very proud of.”
Theroux also added that due to the commonality of separations in the acting world, his break up “doesn’t have that seismic shift of an ordinary couple, where everything is, like, you have to tear a baby in half.”

Neither Theroux nor Aniston have talked about any relationships after their break up.
