Netflix Released A New Lineup Of Horror Movies And Series For October

Horror movies are the most epic form of entertainment, especially this time of year. Why? Because even when they are poorly made, they are still entertaining and generally good for a jump scare or two.

Lucky for us, Netflix is rolling out a whole hayride full of scary movies and series just in time for Halloween, including genuine horror classics that will have you shivering under your covers for many a sleepless night, plus some family-friendly entertainment that everyone can enjoy.

Here are some of the scary movies and shows coming to Netflix in October:

‘The Shining’

The quintessential Stanley Kubrick scare-fest will be available on Oct. 1. Tune in for the absolutely stellar performances from Shelley Duvall and Jack Nicholson in this 1980 original.

‘The Haunting of Molly Hartley’

Do you want some handsome Chace Crawford with your jump scares? Of course, you do. “The Haunting of Molly Hartley” is available on Oct. 4, and this 2008 movie focuses on bullying and the difficulties of high school. At PG-13, it’s a good option for parents who want their tweens or teens to be able to enjoy a horror movie without explicit nudity and graphic violence.

‘The Haunting of Hill House’

Starring Timothy Hutton, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Elizabeth Reaser, “The Haunting of Hill House” follows a group of siblings who must return to their haunted childhood home to face old demons of both the supernatural and the all-too-natural variety. The series is based on a book of the same name by American horror and mystery author Shirley Jackson. It looks perfectly binge-worthy for anyone who enjoys dark dramas like Netflix’s “The Fall” or “American Horror Story,” and it’s out Oct. 12. Here’s the trailer:

‘The Apostle’

This Netflix original is about a man who tries to save his sister from a religious cult living in a not-so-idyllic commune on a remote island. “The Apostle” will be available on Netflix on Oct. 12, and it will show in some theaters, too. Here’s the trailer:

‘The Babadook’

“The Babadook” became an instant cult classic when it was released in 2014. This cerebral flick doesn’t trade on cheap scares. Instead, the supernatural, psychological horror film is a slow burn that quickly becomes nightmare fuel for anyone who can watch the whole thing without closing their eyes. It’s not a new release to Netflix, but it’s a must-watch for anyone looking to get in a Halloween mood this October.

‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’

Here’s some more family-friendly fare for older kids. The “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” comes to us from “Riverdale” producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and it gives us a much darker and scarier look into “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” It comes out Oct. 26, and watching this series would be a perfectly creepy way to spend Halloween night!

‘Children of The Corn’

Another horror gem from the mind of Stephen King. This isn’t a newly added flick, but it might have fallen through the cracks on your queue if you aren’t a horror-head. This 1984 version stars Linda Hamilton (also of “Terminator” fame), and, though this movie spawned a million sequels and remakes, the original is still as potent and creepy as ever.
