Nicki Minaj will open up about an abusive past relationship in an upcoming documentary
Minaj says the time she spent with him completely robbed her of her identity
Nicki Minaj is opening up to fans in an upcoming documentary titled Queen, and she will go so far as to detail an abusive past relationship.

Minaj is documenting her life in a new documentary. Among other subjects, she delves into her troubled childhood, which left a very real impact on her future relationships.
She told viewers that, as a child, she had memories of trying to protect her mother from her abusive father, which eventually became her life.
She said as she teared up, “Maybe some people would describe me as abrasive or bitchy or whatever because I vowed from that age no man would ever abuse me, call out my name or treat me like that. Then all of a sudden, that was my life.”
While Minaj did not name the person that abused her in a relationship, she did say that the time she spent with him completely robbed her of her identity. She said that the abuse even robbed her of the motivation to make music, saying;
“Who was I going to inspire when I had nothing in me to give? I let one human being make me so low, that I didn’t even remember who I was. I was scared to get in the studio. I didn’t believe in myself.”

Minaj rediscovered her love for music and song-making after she relocated to Miami and then to New York City. There, she recorded tracks like Coco Chanel and Good Form.
Minaj has not yet revealed when the documentary will be released.
