One of the most important points in our never-ending fight for equality is that women should be able to make their own choices about their bodies, without the fear of being judged or shamed by anyone, especially not their doctors. Even though many people (even men) feel that they know what’s best for other women, their body is their own, and it’s them who know best.
A woman that goes by the online name Salome Strangelove wrote a Twitter thread that went quickly viral, and it’s about the extreme importance of women having autonomy over their own bodies.
In the beginning, she explains something her mother never told her until Strangelove was almost 40 years old!
Her mother was only 20 when she got pregnant with her, and was actually on birth control at the time. The pregnancy was, unfortunately, completely terrible.
Her mother decided that she wanted no more kids after she gave birth to Strangelove. However, check out what happened when she walked to her doctor about sterilization.
