Stan Lee, Marvel Comics’ Legend, Dies at 95

Stan Lee, Marvel Comics' Legend, Dies at 95 American comic book writer, editor, publisher and former President of Marvel Comics Stan Lee died Monday at the age of 95. Lee gave us over six decades of work like The Incredible Hulk and The Amazing Spider-Man — superheroes we could identify with, characters that allowed us to suspend our disbelief because they reacted to bizarre situations like you or I might. In a 1998 interview, Lee told me, "Before Marvel started, any superhero might be walking down the street and see a 12-foot-tall monster coming toward him with purple skin and eight arms breathing fire, and the character would have said something like, 'Oh! There's a monster from another world; I better catch him before he destroys the city.' Now, if one of our Marvel characters sa...

‘Iron Fist’ is officially canceled after 2 lackluster seasons

Marvel’s Iron Fist has been canceled after only two seasons, making it the first Marvel drama to get the cut. “Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on,” representatives for Marvel and Netflix told the Hollywood Reporter. Despite the fact that Iron Fist’s second season had only just debuted this past September, its lukewarm reception and the outright critical failure of the first season may have spelled doom for the comic b...

Chuck Wendig says he was fired from Marvel for getting too political on Twitter

Lucasfilm Publishing announced at New York Comic Con last week that bestselling author Chuck Wendig (who’s best known for the Aftermath trilogy) was writing a Shadow of Vader miniseriesfor Marvel Comics. But less than a week later, Wendig revealed that he was kicked off the Star Wars project due to the “negativity and vulgarity” that results from Wendig’s Twitter account. Wendig made the announcement on Twitter Friday afternoon, informing his followers that he would no longer write the final two issues of Shadow of Vader. So, here’s a thing that has happened – I just got fired from Marvel. Taken off issues 4 and 5 of SHADOW OF VADER, and taken off an as-yet-unannounced SW book. This might be a long thread, so apologies in advance. — Chuck Wendig (@ChuckWendig) October 12, 2018 ...

Venom: first social media reactions roundup

The social embargo for Venom has lifted, which means those that have seen the film are now free to give their short-form Twitter thoughts on the long-in-the-works Marvel Comics adaptation. This movie was a long time coming, with various attempts having been made over the years to bring the alien character to the big screen. Sony Pictures ultimately succeeded with Tom Hardy in the role of Eddie Brock/Venom and Zombieland and Gangster Squad filmmaker Ruben Fleischerat the helm. Working from a script by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel, they crafted a Jekyll & Hyde origin story that finds the titular symbiote attaching itself to reporter Eddie Brock, wreaking havoc in San Francisco. All the while, Dr. Carter Drake (Riz Ahmed) is conducting experiments that make the symbiote...

Marvel’s Spider-Man had a particularly familiar building for one player

Gaming has come a long way. Some of the newer titles look so realistic, you could swear the fantastic visuals in front of you were real. That’s what happened to one particular Marvel’s Spider-Man fan, who happened upon a building in the popular PlayStation 4 exclusive that looked familiar. Twitter user @theRobertPagan was having a grand old time zipping around the realistic version of New York City in the game when suddenly he stopped, his Spidey poised on the corner of a high-rise looking down at a distinct-looking building. Plot twist coming up next, guys. I was playing Spider-Man when I noticed a building that looked familiar... pic.twitter.com/zDOmmNfTCG — Rob Pagan (@theRobertPagan) September 25, 2018 The Twitter clip continues as he turns to the right and looks out the...

Review: ‘Iron Fist’ improves in season 2, but it still sucks

This Iron Fist season 2 review is spoiler-free. Congratulations to Iron Fist, which just leveled up from unwatchably bad to merely boring. Thanks to new showrunner Raven Metzner (Sleepy Hollow), Marvel’s worst Netflix show now features competent writing, decent action scenes, and a hint of actual personality. It may not measure up to the panache of Luke Cage or Jessica Jones, but at least watching it no longer feels like a stint in purgatory. The main cast returns for season 2, plus Alice Eve as the Daredevil comics villain Typhoid Mary, and a supporting cast of Chinese triad gangsters. (No Marvel/Netflix series is complete without organized crime.) Danny Rand and his girlfriend Colleen Wing are now living together, with Danny continuing his “rich guy on a gap year” theme by working at...

‘American Horror Story’ Every Season of American Horror Story So Far, Ranked

Hint: Every season of this show is both its best and worst season. (Except for Asylum. That one rules. Unquestionably.) Every season of American Horror Story is both the best season of American Horror Story and the worst season of American Horror Story. That’s sort of how the show rolls. Helmed by series maestro Ryan Murphy, it has a tone that veers wildly, and it gives off a madcap air of not caring whether it makes sense or hews to any of the conventions of narrative television. Sometimes it channels profound terror and sadness, something essentially American that drives the series’ core ideas and beliefs. Sometimes it presents something so ridiculous that you have to turn off the television and think about what you’ve been doing with your life while staring out the window at the w...

Marvel’s Spider-Man’s ‘photo mode’ inspires some very silly memes

Marvel’s Spider-Man has been an absolute treasure to play. Ever since it made its debut on PlayStation 4, fans have been savoring every single Spidey moment they can get their hands on. It’s only the best Spidey game in years, after all. One of the coolest features in the game, however, is Photo Mode. Spider-Man can take photos (as well he should be able to) of landmarks throughout Manhattan, pictures of enemies, his allies – anything you want. He’s also able to take hilarious selfies, which people have been doing a whole lot of. wow. the photo mode in the new spider-man game is no joke. pic.twitter.com/9cngSKIotU — Rebel Scum Finn (@realtraitorfinn) September 11, 2018 God bless Spider-Man and his amazing photo mode pic.twitter.com/ZOPhvZJlXf — Ewan Moore (@EMoore_) September ...
