The New York Times Election Needle is back and ready to traumatize people

Nearly everyone who follows politics online knows about the New York Times election needle, the predictor that many watched swing from a likely Hillary Clinton presidency to a Donald Trump victory on the night of Nov. 8, 2016. When it was used during the last presidential election, it became a focal point of some people’s frustration and anxiety. Well, now it appears it will be back, as the 2018 midterm elections are just over two weeks away. Columbia Journalism Review reports that the election needle will return, “in the hope of contextualizing results from far-off districts within the broader congressional map.” #Break: The NYT election needle is coming back, baby! https://t.co/Fc5IsTZZCd pic.twitter.com/suhmdav6yb — David Uberti (@DavidUberti) October 18, 2018 The need...

New York Times tweets, quickly deletes poll over Christine Blasey Ford’s credibility

After Christine Blasey Ford recalled how Brett Kavanaugh, as a teenager, held her down on a bed at a get together, attempted to take her clothes off, and covered her mouth as she screamed, Ford’s voice shaking as she relived her trauma before the Senate Judiciary Committee and tens of thousands of people watching at home, the New York Times opinion section wanted to know one thing: Did Twitter find Ford’s testimony credible? Yes, this was a real question that the Twitter account for the paper’s oft-criticized opinion section posed to the internet, as if the court of public opinion had not already been in session since before Ford’s identity was revealed less than two weeks ago. The poll, which has since been deleted, asked voters to voice whether they felt Ford’s testimony was credib...

WikiLeaks mercilessly trolled for this useless Trump chart

WikiLeaks has done it again. The Julian Assange-fronted group of hacker activists, whose purpose is to obtain and expose high-level government secrets, has gotten to the bottom of the mystery of who wrote the anonymous op-ed in Wednesday’s New York Times. Sort of—they have a general idea of who it might be. WikiLeaks released a tweet on Friday showing the results of detailed language analysis they used to determine the writer’s identity. According to their research, the writer of the op-ed is likely a conservative older male. Based upon our statistical analysis of the language used in the New York Times anonymous Op Ed, the author is likely to be an older (58%), conservative (92%) male (66-87%). Sources should protect themselves by consulting "adverserial stylometry" and "forensic...

Memes mock Trump for tweeting the anonymous op-ed could be ‘TREASON?’

President Donald Trump initially wrote just one word in response to the member of his administration who wrote an anonymous op-ed for the New York Times on Wednesday. And he didn’t even seem sure that it was the right word. That word is “TREASON,” which Trump punctuated in his tweet with a question mark.   TREASON? — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 5, 2018 The Times op-ed, written by a Republican official, lauds efforts of the administration to move conservative policy forward while blasting Trump as a “reckless” leader. But despite Trump’s gut reaction, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) quickly pointed out that the piece does not actually qualify as treason under the Constitution’s definition. Lindsey Graham just responded to Trump's treason tweet on CNN:...

NYT anonymous op-ed claims to be part of ‘resistance’ in Trump administration—gets meme’d

The New York Times published an op-ed from a person who says they are part of President Donald Trump‘s administration where they blast the president’s “worst inclinations” but also stay they are a Republican who wants his agenda to succeed. The newspaper published the editorial from an administration member “whose identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardized by its disclosure.” However, the person who wrote the account is someone who wants Trump’s agenda to move forward, but sees flaws in the person spearheading it. “To be clear, ours is not the popular ‘resistance’ of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous,” the administration official, described as “senior,” wrote. “But...
