Is Jake Paul’s Team 10 crew broken up for good?

Jake Paul’s Team 10 has been on life support since at least four of its high-profile members left in May. Now, it sounds like Paul has pulled the plug on his social media incubator group entirely. The Team 10 Twitter and Instagram accounts, with a combined nearly 4 million followers, have been wiped clean of all their previous content. All that remains on the Instagram account is six posts that spell out “A new team coming soon.” Paul is the only member remaining from the original Team 10 lineup, which also included Alissa Violet, Alex Lange, and the Dobre twins. The latest major exodus occurred in May when Chief Operations Officer Nick Crompton announced his departure, saying “Due to internal changes being made within our various businesses that I don’t agree with, I have re...

‘Iron Fist’ is officially canceled after 2 lackluster seasons

Marvel’s Iron Fist has been canceled after only two seasons, making it the first Marvel drama to get the cut. “Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on,” representatives for Marvel and Netflix told the Hollywood Reporter. Despite the fact that Iron Fist’s second season had only just debuted this past September, its lukewarm reception and the outright critical failure of the first season may have spelled doom for the comic b...

YouTube will no longer monetize duplicate videos

Take a stroll through YouTube and you’ll inevitably come across videos showing the same few minutes of footage, but hosted on several different channels with no discernible difference. Sometimes it’s movie trailers, and sometimes it’s a viral video, but YouTube now says it is doubling efforts to crack down on channels that try to make money off of duplicated content. In a blog post, YouTube explained how the new efforts will impact members of the YouTube Partners Program, which lets content creators apply to monetize their videos for personal profit. YouTube describes the duplicative content as anything that meets some or all of these criteria: Content, “Appears to be automatically generated; Pulled from third party sources with no content or narrative added by the creator; Uploaded ...

The best Christmas Movies On Netflix

It’s always the right time of year for Christmas movies on Netflix. Whether you’re in the mood for Christmas dramas, comedies, rom-coms, or animation, Netflix has something for you to get lost in this holiday season. Here are the best Christmas movies on Netflix. 1) Love Actually Yes, I know it’s not cool to like Love Actually anymore. But whether you love it or hate it, it’s hard to deny that it lives up to its tagline of “The ultimate romantic comedy.” This story of intersecting relationships in London around Christmas is both one of the definitive rom-coms and one of the definitive holiday movies of our time. —Chris Osterndorf 2) White Christmas Although the famous Irving Berlin song was first popularized in the 1942 Bing Crosby/Fred Astaire vehicle Holiday Inn, many Americ...

Netflix’s “The Kindergarten Teacher” is an unnerving, engrossing drama

Writer/director Sara Colangelo’s The Kindergarten Teacher is a beguiling film. The remake of Israeli writer/director Nadav Lapid’s 2014 film of the same name starts as a fairly benign drama about a teacher living a frustrated life and gives way to a potent tale of obsession and the cost of greatness. Colangelo’s storytelling is deft enough that I didn’t realize I was being lured in until it was too late. The Kindergarten Teacher follows Lisa Spinelli (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a public school teacher who seems to love her job, takes a continuing education course on poetry, and goes home to a loving husband and two teenagers. It’s the kind of life that seems practical only in the movies. But there are cracks in the façade, visible right off the bat: Lisa’s poetry is mediocre at best, she’s bor...

Laura Prepon’s new YouTube cooking channel shows you the perfect way to hard boil an egg

Do you need to know how to perfectly cook a hard-boiled egg? Are you thirsty for a how-to video on producing your own almond milk? Do you wonder whether you should sprinkle vinegar into your egg salad? If so, actress Laura Prepon has you covered in her new YouTube channel, where she shows viewers her cooking secrets and some of the recipes she uses the most. Prepon—who shot to fame in That ‘70s Show and Orange Is the New Black—quietly started vlogging about a month ago, and she’s created a total of four videos that have accumulated more than 124,000 views as of this writing. With nearly 30,000 subscribers, she hasn’t quite made the celebrity splash on the platform that actors like Will Smith and Kevin Hart have in the past year. But really, how fast can you expect your subscriber ...

“Big Mouth” is the best-kept secret on Netflix

Puberty! Everyone experiences it, and no one comes out unscathed. From the jocks to the nerds, that time in your life when your body changes and your hormones spike is always filled with a certain amount of internal struggle. Countless “coming of age” stories have tackled this topic in some manner, which is why it’s surprising that one of Hollywood’s best takes on puberty ended up being Netflix’s Big Mouth, the wildly profane and surprisingly poignant animated show now in its second season. It’s the kind of series where a celebration of body positivity will be followed by a parade of sentient, furry dicks. Season 2 finds seventh-graders Nick Birch (Nick Kroll) and Andrew Glouberman (John Mulaney) battling against their changing bodies, a battle that’s sometimes physically person...

Flight of the Conchords’ HBO comeback is a nostalgic return to form

In the very first episode of Flight of the Conchords, which first aired more than 11 years ago, Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement perform “I’m Not Crying,” a dramatic song dedicated to their boiling emotions, despite their best efforts to pocket them. “These aren’t tears of sadness/They’re tears of joy/I’m just laughing/Ha ha ha-ha ha,” they sing, their weepy faces transposed over one another. In the context of the show, “I’m Not Crying” comically reveals just how hung up the two characters are over the same girl, a blonde named Sally. Still, it’s the exact musical number I’d like to sing on weeks like these to will, or laugh myself out of something as tormenting as heartbreak, and as tragically comical as a Supreme Court finalist repeatedly yelling “I like beer!” During their new c...

Here’s your first look at ‘The Umbrella Academy’ and ‘The Dark Crystal’

Netflix offered exclusive looks at two of its upcoming shows for fans at New York Comic ConFriday night as part of a supersized panel that showcased the streaming service’s spookier side. Two of the TV shows featured on the panel, The Haunting of Hill House and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, are set to debut on Netflix later in October. However, The Umbrella Academy and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance are both a ways off, and the cast and creative minds behind those particular shows had plenty of tricks up their sleeves to get fans excited. First up was The Umbrella Academy, which is an adaptation of the Eisner-award winning series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. The all-star cast—which included Mary J. Blige, Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David C...

YouTuber posts heartbreaking video after his $18K Lego collection was ransacked

YouTuber republicattak loves his Lego collection. You can see that in basically every vlog he posts, and his creations have given him so much joy since he started collecting the plastic blocks 14 years ago. But in a video posted to YouTube on Friday, titled simply “Bye,” it was clear his channel was falling apart after he revealed that his Lego collection, estimated at $18,000, had been ransacked and destroyed. The video quickly went viral, piling up more than 600,000 page views as of this writing—most of his videos average between 50-200 page views per day, but he’s added about 13,000 new subscribers in the past few days, bringing his subscriber base to more than 18,000, according to Social Blade. And now, a GoFundMe has been set up to help him recover. In the vlog, an emotional rep...
