A New Jersey Mom’s 911 Call About Racist Man Prevented A School Shooting In Kentucky

She listened to her gut and saved lives. This is an incredible story. On Wednesday, Oct. 17, New Jersey mom Koebere Bull received a Facebook message from 20-year-old Dylan Jarrell, who told her he wanted her children to die because they are black. He used several racial slurs throughout the message and also described the ways in which he thought Bull’s children deserved to die. In addition to the personal horror, Bull said she also worried about Jarrell’s potential threat to others. “Something in the back of my head was like, this isn’t right, like something’s not sitting well,” she said to WKYT. Bull and her friends started to dig for information on who Jarrell was, and discovered that he lived in Kentucky. Bull then alerted Kentucky police of the contents of the message. Trooper J...

Seattle introduces ‘swatting’ protection measures—but does it go far enough?

The Seattle Police Department just launched new safety measures to protect streamers and online personalities from “swatting,” or when a perpetrator phones a fake 911 call in order to send heavily armed police officers to an innocent person’s house. But some internet users think Seattle law enforcement’s solutions place too much onus on the victim and not enough on punishing the aggressor—or policing the police. In a new page titled “Protect Yourself from Swatting,” the Seattle police revealed that it is working with services Smart 911 and Rave Mobile Safety so residents can create web profiles warning police officers and 911 dispatchers if they are at-risk for swatting. Under Rave Mobile, streamers, online personalities, and other potential victims can tell 911 call takers if swatting ...

Decades After A Stolen Child Was Reunited With His Family, Questions Arose About His True Identity

As hard as the police and FBI try to solve every case, it’s impossible not to make mistakes from time to time. They’re only human, and sometimes there are so many moving parts it’s difficult to find the answer. When a one-day-old baby was stolen out of a hospital in Chicago, police and the FBI went on a manhunt to locate him. Then, two years later, they miraculously found him and returned him to his parents. However, not all was as it seemed… (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); In Chicago, 1964, Paul Fronczak was only one day old when he was stolen from the Michael Reese Hospital by a woman posing as a nurse. Paul’s mother, Dora, handed her newborn son off to the woman, and she left the room, never to return. Immediately, a citywide manhunt was lau...

Detroit cop fired for posting racist Snapchat selfie

Never should law enforcement refer to the people they “protect and serve” as “zoo animals.” Especially, if they are playing into the centuries-old dehumanization of Black people. Thankfully, the Detroit police chief agrees and fired one of his rookie cops for doing such as a thing. “If you feel that way, you’re not welcome here and we’re not going to have any tolerance for this kind of behavior,” Chief James Craig said on Monday. According to Detroit News, 27-year-old officer Sean Bostwick, who is white, was fired on Monday after posting a Snapchat selfie the Saturday before, captioning the post that he was about to start “another night to rangel [sic] up these zoo animals.” In the Snapchat post, Bostwick is in uniform, sporting knitted eyebrows and a slightly duckface-ish lip pucker...

This Siri shortcut in iOS 12 makes it easy to record police interactions

One of the most useful new features of iOS 12 is the addition of Siri Shortcuts. With shortcuts, you can essentially program a series of actions on your phone when you give Siri a specific command. You could set a shortcut to adjust the temperature and start playing your wakeup playlist in the morning (“Siri, get me ready for the day,” for example) or to make it easier to share information with a loved one when you copy a link on your phone. One redditor created a Siri Shortcut that preps your phone to record police interactions. The instructions come via RobertAPeterson on Reddit. He created a shortcut called Police, which you can get for your own iOS 12-running device here. The aim of this shortcut is to make it easy to document an interaction if you’re pulled over by the police. T...

Crawl Space Behind Grandma’s Dresser Holds The Key To Solving 2-Year-Old Missing Person’s Case

It’s horrible to think about, but children go missing all the time. Police do their best to locate them, but not every missing child case gets solved. All anyone wants is some kind of closure, even if it takes years to get it. When a young boy from Illinois went missing in 2004, his father, who had been fighting for custody, was completely distraught. For two years, no one found a single clue as to his whereabouts, until police searched one very obvious location… In 2007, a young boy named Ricky Chekevdia went missing. Police, naturally, did everything they could to locate him, but for two years they made no progress. That was until they decided to investigate a close family member. Ricky’s parents, Michael Chekevdia and Shannon Wilfong, had a tumultuous relationship even before...
