Decades After A Stolen Child Was Reunited With His Family, Questions Arose About His True Identity

In Chicago, 1964, Paul Fronczak was only one day old when he was stolen from the Michael Reese Hospital by a woman posing as a nurse. Paul’s mother, Dora, handed her newborn son off to the woman, and she left the room, never to return.

It was the FBI, and they told Paul’s parents they located a boy in Newark, New Jersey who matched their son’s description! Dora and Chester were elated, but, was it too good to be true? Had they really found Paul after all this time?

Dora and Chester drove from Chicago to Newark to finally reunite with their son who was now a toddler. No one, including the FBI, could believe the stroke of luck. However, this was far from the end of Paul’s journey.

As Paul grew up, he learned about the whole kidnapping ordeal that occurred when he was a newborn. It was then that he started having some questions of his own…

You see, ever since he was returned to his parents, Paul hadn’t been able to shake the story of his past. It made him feel like an outsider, even within his own family unit.

To compensate for these feelings Paul became super outgoing, listened to loud music, and started cruising on motorcycles. He was just trying to find himself, but this made him feel like even more of an outcast.

A voice inside Paul wouldn’t be silenced. He couldn’t help it, he knew something wasn’t right in his life and he believed it all connected to his kidnapping. For one thing, he couldn’t understand why he had been found so far from Chicago…

Paul knew that unearthing the details surrounding his kidnapping would be stressful to his parents, but he also knew that doing some digging might help him feel more at home in the world. As an adult, Paul finally decided to face his fears and truly investigate his past.

One afternoon in 2012 while his parents were visiting, Paul asked them to do a DNA swab test. He figured it would be best make sure that he really was who he thought he was. He sent out the samples, and several days later received the results via phone…

The person on the other end of the line told Paul there was “no remote possibility” he was Dora and Chester’s biological son! His world was just turned upside down, and he had no idea how to fix it.

Who were his real parents if not Dora and Chester? Also, what happened to the real Paul Fronczak? Shocked themselves, the people Paul called his parents stood by his side in the face of this news. They helped Paul find a team of volunteers to help him get more answers.

These “DNA Detectives” started a deep dive into Paul’s history, and traced his roots to Tennessee, where he was born into a Jewish family. Paul also learned his birth name was Jack Rosenthal. Now that he had a solid foundation, it was time to meet some relatives.

When Paul finally met one cousin Lenny, they immediately connected. Paul finally felt like he was with family. However, as great as Lenny was, Paul also learned about a dark side of his biological relatives…

Paul’s mother was an alcoholic and his father had severe anger problems. He also had a twin sister and siblings, but according to his family, the kids were all badly neglected. Paul had a strong suspicion something sinister may have happened to his twin sister, Jill, and that’s why his parents gave him up.

Paul wrote a book about his entire journey working towards the truth called The Foundling. In it, he even talked about how he went to his parent’s old home and dug up the garden, hoping to find the remains of his sister. However, he had no such luck.

After his book came out, Paul began giving interviews to people who wanted to know his whole bizarre story. His life had so many twists and turns, but Paul had at least uncovered some of the truth. But, his search is far from over…

To this day, Paul is still on the hunt for the actual Paul Fronczak who was abducted from his adopted parents. He is determined to give closure to a case that’s been following him ever since he was a toddler.

It was truly amazing that the DNA Detectives were able to shed so much light on a life Paul Fronczak knew absolutely nothing about. Hopefully, he eventually finds closure for everything that’s happened.

Man Takes His Metal Detector To The Woods And What He Finds Leaves Him With More Questions

Most people don’t consider men and women combing fields with metal detectors to be even remotely in the same league as, say, Indiana Jones. Although these enthusiasts may not crack a whip quite like Harrison Ford, the treasures they unearth would put even the great Dr. Jones to shame.

When one Vermont man went trekking through the forest with his metal detector, he was hoping to find anything that would make his expedition worthwhile. What he found instead may be the greatest discovery in treasure hunting history…

A lifelong metal detector enthusiast, Brad Martin of Green Mountain Metal Detecting has pulled all kinds of forgotten treasures from the earth. But nothing could prepare Brad for what would become the greatest find of his life.

Though some treasure hunters prefer the prospects of a sandy beach, Brad’s frequent sweeps of his native Vermont have always proved to be more fruitful. Thanks to his rapport with the people of the area, Brad was given free rein over thousands of acres of privately owned land.

On one fateful day, Brad decided to hike into the mountains to an area known to contain the ruins of an old building. When he arrived, he came upon a large hole in the ground — likely the remains of the building’s basement — and miles of dilapidated stone walls.

Brad was convinced that his next great find was lying somewhere in this patch of woods. He could almost feel it. Little did he know how right he really was.

No sooner did Brad begin searching that he stumbled upon his first find of the day: a tombac button. This type button was very popular in the 1700s, but fell out of favor due to its brittleness.

This button’s discovery meant that whoever had searched the area before had missed it, and likely many more hidden treasures. Sure enough, Brad’s intuition was spot on, and the finds just kept coming…

Brad’s next big pull of the day was this valuable copper coin. Though the surface had been worn over time, Brad concluded that it was either a British halfpenny or a coin from an early colony.

When Brad pulled this peculiar-looking object out of the ground, he couldn’t make heads or tails of it. While he initially believed it to be an old clock hand, Brad later said that it was likely the trigger-guard plate from an old musket.

Finally, Brad unearthed a coin from the ground that he was actually able to identify! The face of the relatively large coin depicted a bust of King George II, and alongside the image was the word “CONNEC”. For Brad, this could only mean one thing…

This was a Connecticut copper, struck 1785-1788, likely worth a few hundred dollars. Though this find in and of itself was enough to make Brad’s expedition a success, there was one unbelievable treasure still yet to be found.

As the sun began to set on his day of detecting, Brad decided to slowly make his way back to his truck. Detecting as he walked, Brad’s device suddenly picked up a reading just a few yards from the road.

The metal detector rang out a solid 79, which was right around the same reading that his other finds of the day had been. Taking out his camera and shovel one last time, Brad began digging.

The higher the reading on the detector, the more valuable the item below is likely to be. Though Brad believed this find would turn out to be another button he was shocked at what he found this time…

Brushing off the soil, Brad unearthed a massive silver coin in amazing condition. He was stunned: a find like this easily should’ve read as a 99 on his metal detector!

After carefully cleaning the coin, Brad realized he had unearthed an incredible 1780 Spanish Eight Reales. This was the same fabled coin known as a “Piece of 8” from the pirate legends of old.

Spanish silver coins came in five varieties during the time they were minted: 1/2, 1, 2, 4, and 8 Reales, with 8 being the most valuable and sought-after. Though considered legal tender in the US up until the 1800s, finding a coin like this — and in such good shape — was one in a million.

As Brad’s excitement over his amazing find wore off, however, he began to grow suspicious of some of the coin’s features. Not only did the coin’s 79 reading still linger in his head, but someone had also carved the initials “DS” into its face.

After doing some research, Brad learned that this coin was one of the most counterfeited in the world during its circulation. In fact, Britain heavily counterfeited this coin in order to cripple the Spanish economy during the Anglo-Spanish War, 1796-1808.

Though Brad’s life-changing find is likely a fake, the counterfeit coin will fetch a respectable price on the open market. Of course, Brad’s not in it for the money, and the thought of his next big find will surely have him back out there with his metal detector in no time!

But, how did police eventually locate him after so much time?

While attending church some 19 years after her son disappeared, Lisa was discussing the details of the case with an Indiana State Police detective. The conversation prompted the detective to revisit the mystery.

After some research, the detective discovered there was someone living in Long Prairie with the same social security number and birthday as Michael. This immediately raised red flags…

They eventually tracked down Michael at his grandparents home in Little Prairie, Minnesota. When Michael’s parents were informed of the discovery, they were overwhelmed with emotion. Their son was found at last!

Michael’s father, naturally, was incredibly relieved by the news. Of course, he was hoping to completely rekindle a relationship with his son after so much time apart. But, how did Michael feel about everything? Was he angry his grandparents stole him away at such a young age?

After learning about his parents’ struggles, Michael knew his grandparents did the right thing, even though it was illegal. They broke the law to benefit their grandson’s well-being, and Michael was happy they did. So, what’s happened to Michael since the startling realization?

Well, he and Bobbie had their child together! Michael could not have been happier and more proud to welcome their son, Sam, into the world.

Look at how adorable Sam is! He has a contagious smile just like his father, and Michael and Bobbie plan on raising him in a loving and stable household. He doesn’t ever want Sam to go through what he did…

Now, Michael and Bobbie have a beautiful family, and they haven’t let the past hold them back. Michael loves being a dad, and he credits his skills in that area to the lessons he learned about parenting from his grandparents.

Michael never had any sour feelings towards his grandparents for what they did when he was five. As far as he was concerned, they always had his safety in mind, and they made a bold move to keep it that way.

When This Famous Paraglider Was Sucked Into A Huge Storm, She Needed A Miracle

When one German paraglider set out for a normal practice run, she didn’t anticipate any problems. But once nearly everything went wrong, she knew she would have to draw upon every ounce of her athletic expertise to survive.

Are you afraid of heights? Ewa Wisnierska sure isn’t. In fact, she is one of the top paragliders in the world. But even with years of experience, she had no idea about the dangers she would face in 2007.

As a member of the German national team, Ewa was in the Manilla, Australia for the Paragliding World Championships. About a week beforehand, she and a couple hundred others set off on a training run.

But there were signs that this was not going to be an ordinary practice session. Though organizers warned of stormy weather conditions that day, Ewa and her team figured they could handle it. Hadn’t she already seen it all?

Ewa departed about an hour after most of her competitors, and the first leg of her journey was business as usual. She met only calm conditions while zipping over the mountains.

Meanwhile, Ewa’s team monitored her progress from a decked-out van below. They could follow every detail of the glider’s trajectory in real time and would pick her up whenever she landed.

12 miles in, the smooth sailing stopped. The sky darkened and thunderstorms erupted all around Ewa. She’d seen rough weather before, but never anything like this. This storm was a killer.

Within minutes of its arrival, the storm was proving deadly. It already took one life. He Zhongpin, a Chinese paraglider, perished in mid-air after a lightning bolt struck him.

Chunks of hail, some larger than five inches in diameter, also rained down from the sky. One solid hit could shatter bones or tear through the thin cloth of the glider.

Sensing these dangers, Ewa steered away from the storm. She breathed a sigh of relief when she surpassed the range of the lightning and hail, but little did she know she had flown into the most formidable hazard of all.

Her glider entered a cumulonimbus cloud and got caught in a draft. It hurtled her upward at a speed of over 40 miles per hour. She reached a height of well over 30,000 feet, an altitude equivalent to that of a jumbo jet. It was higher than Mount Everest!

That was when Ewa blacked out. Not only was she higher up than any paraglider had ever gone before; she was also completely helpless.

Her ground team lost track of her amid the storm and could only watch in horror as her altitude numbers kept going up and up. They feared the worst, but kept their hopes alive for a miracle.

Icicles formed on Ewa’s gear and body as her lungs struggled to find oxygen. But as it turned out, her unconsciousness was something of a saving grace.

Ewa entered what was essentially a hibernation state, not unlike a cold-blooded animal. She couldn’t do anything for the moment, but at least she was keeping herself alive.

More and more ice covered her glider, and the weight caused it to plummet. Ewa awoke in free fall. She couldn’t even control the brakes because her gloves were both frozen solid.

As the Earth’s surface reappeared below, Ewa grabbed the handles and steered toward the ground. It was a strong effort, but not a perfect one — she crash-landed in an open field. Battered and exhausted, Ewa grabbed her radio.

Ewa’s team had no success reaching her during her ascent, so they could hardly believe it when she finally made contact. With time running out, they received Ewa’s coordinates — almost 40 miles from the original launch site.

When Ewa’s support finally reached her, she was freezing and too tired to move. But she was still alive. They whisked her away to a nearby hospital, where the staff got her the warmth and oxygen she so badly needed.

Ewa’s injuries were severe, but she made an astonishingly quick recovery. As a matter of fact, she made her return to the skies just six days later. She was on cloud nine — fortunately, this cloud didn’t lift her up past Mount Everest.

For true champions like Ewa, not even disaster can keep them down for long. Even in the face of unimaginable adversity, you have to power through and keep chasing your dreams.

Ewa’s survival almost defies explanation. How many other people could have made it through such a nightmare?
